Shortcuts

Ctrl-N (New Configuration)

No longer available in newsbin 5.10 and later

Brings up the NewsBin configuration screens to create a new configuration. The screens will ask you for your news server name and address, and allow you to select some newsgroups.

Known Issue: Does not wipe current configuration out of memory and use newly configured server. Requires a restart to use the new configuration. Bug 82

Ctrl-O (Open Configuration)

Not available when using the Compact Toolbar

Prompts to open a NZB file which ends with a .nzb extension. This file contains details of a post that is to be downloaded by Newsbin. The format of NZB files is standard XML, and many postings to newsgroups also include them as part of the post.

In early Newsbin 5.0x releases this button also allowed configuration files (.nbi) to be opened. This usage is deprecated and has not been available since Newsbin 5.10 or later.

Ctrl-S (Save Configuration)

Saves your current configuration and download list (if currently downloading), Scratch list, and Filters. The configuration is stored in the currently selected configuration file. The filename is listed in the upper left corner of the NewsBin window and ends with a .nbi extension. By default the filename is untitled.nbi but it is suggested that you create your own filename using the "Save Configuration As..." option.

Ctrl-F (Load NZB's)

Prompts to load an NZB file for processing. Read the NZB FAQ for more information.

Alt-1 (Toggle Upper Left Pane)

Only available in Version 4 and Version 5 series Toggles the upper left pane open and closed. The setting is remembered across runs. If you decide to close this pane permanently, make sure no tabs are configured to show here by using the Window Positions settings. When the window is in the closed position, you can manually restore it by clicking along the left side of the NewsBin window and drag to the right open the window.

This option is useful if you have the default configuration of Groups and Servers showing in the upper left window and post list in the upper right window. If you want to temporarly expand a post list to have the entire width of the screen, hit Alt-1 to hide the Groups and Servers tabs.

NOTE: As of 5.54, this now does the Alt-2 function: Zoom in on Top Pane (and hide Bottom Pane). To restore original functionality, install the [| Language Pack]. Even if you install English again, you will get the functionality back.

Alt-2 (Toggle Upper Panes)

Version 4 series only Toggles the bottom pane between open and closed. This will have the effect of toggling any top panes between their normal setting and full height. The setting is remembered across runs. By default, post list tabs appear in this window and using Alt-2 allows you to temporary use the full height of the screen to view posts. If used in conjunction with Alt-1, you can designate the entire screen to a post list.

This toggle hides the bottom window. You can restore the bottom window manually by clicking on the bottom edge of the NewsBin window and dragging the cursor up to reveal the bottom window.

NOTE: As of Version 5.54, this option has been removed. To restore original functionality, install the [| Language Pack]. Even if you install English again, you will get the functionality back.

Alt-3 (Toggle Bottom Pane)

Version 4 series only Toggles the upper panes between open and closed. This has the effect of toggling the bottom pane between normal and full height. The setting is remembered across runs. In the default configuration, the Thumbnails tab resides in the Bottom Pane. Toggling to full screen allows you to view images in a larger format.

NOTE: As of Version 5.54, this option has been disabled. To restore original functionality, install the [| Language Pack]. Even if you install English again, you will get the functionality back.
